They were being paid $8.50 to $9.50 an hour in cash. To hire a legal alien or native born American an employer would have to pay $13 an hour even without health benefits. It is past time to require employers to use E-Verify or to pay $1,000 a day fines for every illegal alien on the premises. This would reduce crime rates, budget cuts and unemployment immediately.
