There are 3,859,553 Americans On Emergency Unemployment Compensation. That figure grew by 265,300 in the past week. These are people who are long term unemployed and have lost regular unemployment benefits.
Jobs Contract 23rd Straight Month; Unemployment Rate Drop to 10.0% 9.2 million individuals were working part time because their hours had been cut back or because they were unable to find a full-time job. About 2.3 million persons were marginally attached to the labor force in November, an increase of 376,000 from a year earlier. These individuals were not in the labor force, wanted and were available for work, and had looked for a job sometime in the prior 12 months. They were not counted as unemployed. This means there are millions of workers whose hours will rise before companies start hiring more workers. It should take at least 100,000 jobs just to keep up with demographics.
Moreover, those "not in the labor force dropped rose by 291,000 constituting nearly all of the decline in unemployment. So if real jobs start opening up millions pf part-timers and millions more of labor force drop outs will line up for those jobs ahead of those millions of young people who will be entering the work force over the next ten years.
We are talking about societal collapse. No politician has suggested any plan to avert disaster.
